Spring 2008
Instructors: Varied
Course sponsors: Uwe Kortshagen
Credits: 1
Course Format: Bi-Weekly One-Hour Seminar
Location: 402 Walter Library
Prerequisites: IT graduate student or consent of instructor
General information:
This seminar course will give students a broad overview of current research in Nanoparticle Science and Engineering. Topics draw from the areas of nanoparticle synthesis, nanoparticle characterization, nanoparticle-based materials and devices, environmental impact of nanoparticles, and instrumentation for nanoparticle research. The course will feature internal speakers from the University of Minnesota as well as external experts.
Course objective:
The seminar course NPSE8101 complements the two core courses NPSE8001 and NPSE8002 of the graduate minor in “Nanoparticle Science and Engineering.” It will provide students with examples of real-world research in the nanoparticle field and thus give students a new perspective to the material presented in the core courses. The seminar course will draw on speakers from various departments, which will add an important interdisciplinary element to the education in the minor.
Grading:
Students are expected to attend all seminars to pass the course. In the event of an emergency, one seminar may be missed. Attendance will be taken during each seminar.
